A cover design for a real magic book is a challenge. Because a magic book is not just about the words inside, but a magic book is a magical *object* in its own right - a tool for magic, an energy generater, an imprinter and also an MEMEM, to be used in actual magic.
So apart from the challenge of, "Does it look right?" this kind of structural design also needs to feel right, and "magic right" for the want of a better word.
Inner child and art therapy, magic art, energy art, totem making, well, the 14 books write themselves, don't they?
Does a picture say more than a thousand words on the topic of The Inner Child?
You be the judge of that ...
Sometimes I find geometrical mandala type designs very soothing.
And what could be more soothing than the magical energy flow in a pyramid?
Asked to create an image to represent the human energy body, I thought that's a challenge.
You have to be very careful when you're illustrating things that cannot be seen; you are making a visual metaphor and if that's wrong, people can get the wrong end of the stick so easily ...
Do you remember the mysterious black stones from 2001 A Space Odyssey?
Whilst doing some illustrations for http://genius23.com they came to mind ... :-)
Sometimes, artists just want to have fun.
So it is Easter ... one has to decorate an egg. What kind of egg? A space egg!
What should I put on it? Genius Symbols, of course!
Now all you have to do is wonder what's inside ...
I was looking at a background image at the same time as wondering about a The Gift for a good friend, and I "saw an angel in the clouds".
Perfect ...
Lucky Hans, or Hans Im Glück as the Germans say, is an archetype that relates to the Fool in the Tarot card.
Lucky Hans strides out with a bundle on his stick, to find his fortune, make his luck, free from all worry, fear and responsibility, enjoying life to the full.
I was looking for the very iconic image of Lucky Hans this morning and couldn't find anything I liked so I decided to make my own Hans im Glück picture instead.
There has been a lot of talk about manifesting in the hard recently and in general, the idea of something that originates in one dimension, taking that transformational trip to manifest in an other.
Either way, here we have a visitor from a light dimension, coming to a neighbourhood near you - there's a starman waiting in the sky ...
From mundane design to word art - poem to paper, and eventually, a meditation on transience.
Art doesn't let itself be confined into arbitrary categories. I think today was a major reminder of that ...
The Space Squid is one of three symbol paintings that all happened very quickly within the spate of two days. I'm not giving the set up away; suffice to say it had really nothing to do with space squids.
And in the "swan" orientation, it's quite a different story ...
One of those images that turned up out of the clear blue sky - it was just there, complete with a story, worshipping at the temple of the sun, well you can imagine what was going on there!
LOL ...
This was originally a symbol painting on the topic of gold and green.
As so often happens, a squirt entered and exclaimed, "Hey, look, it's a tree! With gold on it! Is it a money tree? It's a magic money tree, right?"
...!
Flowers by StarFields the vector version.
The Lighthouse - one of those things that just turned up and wanted to be done in 2006. As a symbol hybrid, at that.
In 2009, I de-stressed by spending some time on turning The Lighthouse into a vector drawing, using swatches of the original colours, a very time consuming process indeed. Here are both.
The Golden Voyager - what can I say?
Step aboard the ship of dreams and follow your stars ...
